A1 Team Malaysia has announced it is to stick with Fairuz Fauzy for this weekend's races in Durban, South Africa.
Fauzy made a surprise return to the team at the last round in Sydney, replacing long time favourite Alex Yoong, A1GP's most experienced driver. Fauzy made a steady return in the soaking wet conditions of Australia, finishing the Sprint and Feature races in 17th and 20th respectively.
The team is hoping for dry weather in Durban this weekend, and if so, it could then score a brace of strong points finishes. 'We need to put some more points on the board and that will be our aim this weekend,' said team chief executive Jack Cuningham. 'Durban has often thrown up some surprising results and it can be a lottery with on-track incidents sidelining favourites.
'We've seen that if you keep out of trouble and away from the walls, you can bag the points. Last year there were only ten finishers in the Feature race, so it's wide open for everyone at this race weekend.
'With beautiful weather expected allowing Fairuz to re-acquaint himself more fully with an A1GP car after the hit-and-miss of Sydney, you will see us make some progress this weekend.'
Fauzy is still eligible to compete in Friday morning's rookie session, having earned only six caps for Malaysia so far.
