GoIndustry DoveBid has announced that it is set to market and sell off the assets of the currently postponed A1 Grand Prix championship, following a request from the series administrator. The championship is hoped to restart next year after Season 5, which should have commenced last autumn, was placed on hold.
With all cars and equipment currently remaining in possession of A1GP organisers, the following statement was released by GoIndustry on Wednesday:
'GoIndustry DoveBid are please to announce that its UK Insolvency team have been instructed by the Administrator of A1 Grand Prix Operations Limited (A1GP) to market and sell the assets of a single seater formula racing series.
The details are being drawn up, but we believe there to be in excess of 20 Ferrari engined open wheel single formula race cars, formula engines, spares and all the support equipment.'
In response to the statement, an A1GP spokesperson explained to GPUpdate.net on Thursday morning that a scheme of such nature has always been part of the championship's recovery plan. "We don't know who has that sort of money but it's even possible, for example, that Tony Teixeira (former series organiser) could buy the equipment," the spokesperson theorised.
However, it has been stressed that organisers intend to market the series as a whole with the objective being to revive the championship, as opposed to selling off cars and components individually.
