Bourdais pushed out of Toronto Grand Prix

9 July 2007

For Sébastien, the 2007 edition of the grand prix of Toronto is one to forget as fast as possible. Despite starting from the pole, Sébastien could not keep the lead to the first turn as Oriol Servia took a great start and went on to lead the first part of the race. But Sébastien was having a strong run until the rain started at mid race.

As Bourdais had to dive into the pits to put on the rain tyres, he lost a couple of position and came back out in third. But his car wasn't handling well on the wet conditions and Will Power and Justin Wilson were able to go around him. Sébastien was showing in fifth position when Robert Doornbos made a mistake and ran into the back his, spinning him around and sending him in the tyres. The Frenchman's race was over while Doornbos was able to continue after the incident to finish sixth. At the front of the pack, Will Power took the checkered flag after a clean race.

"The least we can is that I had a tough day out there. The car was just very difficult to handle in the rain. I am obviously very disappointed in the way it all ended for us because I feel that we deserved better. Robert Doornbos was truly sorry after what happened, he knew he'd made a mistake. But it doesn't change anything to the facts. Anyway, we are going to try to forget this weekend as soon as possible and look ahead. In these circumstances, it is the best thing to do", said Sébastien after the race.

Robert Doornbos is now the new leader for the championship with 164 points while Will Power climbs back to second with 162 points. Sébastien shows in third position, just one point behind.
