It has been confirmed that Virgin Racing Formula 1 driver Lucas di Grassi is now a minority shareholder of the Addax GP3 team, which this season has been running a line-up consisting of Britain’s Oliver Oakes alongside current drivers Felipe Guimarães of Brazil, Mirko Bortolotti of Italy and Pablo Sanchez López of Mexico.
The maiden GP3 championship has been a struggle for Addax, which currently languishes joint eighth in the Constructors’ Championship with Mücke Motorsport and MW Arden, although the Spanish team is now looking to the future.
Di Grassi was first involved with Addax as he drove for them in the 2008 GP2 season, in which he still finished third overall despite not contesting the first six races.
“I would like to thank Alejandro Agag for this opportunity to form part of this team that I already know so well, which makes it easier to back this project,” said Lucas, who will turn 27 next Saturday.
“I was very happy here and achieved important objectives with them in 2008; now I’m back to offer my services, especially in the sports area. I’m looking forward to working on a project which is a genuine platform for young drivers and I will try to help them with technical and tactical preparation, giving them information concerning the circuits, race strategy and so on.”
