Melker to stay with RSC Mücke in 2011

29 September 2010

It has been confirmed by the RSC Mücke Motorsport team that The Netherlands’ Nigel Melker will be remaining with the squad for the second GP3 season in 2011, following a difficult first campaign which ended with 23rd position outright this year.

Although fellow countryman Renger van der Zande will not be competing in GP3 next season, the Ralf Schumacher-funded team has confirmed that 19-year-old Melker, who hails from Rotterdam, will be staying on-board.

“We had a typical rookie year in GP3, with ups and downs, but at the last race at Monza we were able to show where we are at with solid second, fourth and eighth positions in qualifying,” said Team Principal Peter Mücke.

“Now we want to build on this performance at the two tests scheduled this year at Estoril (13-15 October) and at Jerez (20-22 October). The winter tests will also give us a fantastic opportunity to continue working on the car using Nigel’s experience.

“That is where we will place the foundation for a successful season in 2011. We are confident that we will race for the championship the next year.”
