Hylkema pleased with GP3 introduction

19 October 2010

The Netherlands’ Thomas Hylkema was pleased with his first GP3 outing at the Estoril test session last week, as he now hopes for a full-time drive in the series which heads into its second season next year.

Present with Manor Racing, the 22-year-old Dutchman ended proceedings 22nd quickest of the 30 drivers - two places ahead of fellow debutant team-mate Rio Haryanto as other partner Adrien Tambay topped the timesheets.

“All three days were really enjoyable, I had some great coaching from Marc Hynes and the whole team is very professional – it’s been a fantastic introduction to GP3,” said Hylkema, a graduate of the Formula Renault UK championship.

“I’ve definitely learned a lot over the course of the test and I’m really looking forward to the run at Jerez this week. The GP3 car has a lot more performance than the Formula Renault I’ve been used to - it doesn’t feel hugely quicker when you’re at the wheel but that’s because it’s quite heavy.

“It’s a great car to drive and I was pleased with how I got used to the Pirelli tyres quite well.”

The latest GP3 testing action will be staged in Jerez, Spain between Wednesday and Friday of this week
