Bottas steps up to GP3 with ART

23 November 2010

ART Grand Prix has confirmed that Formula 3 Euro Series front-runner Valtteri Bottas will be progressing to GP3 with the outfit for the 2011 season, with the squad set to be re-named Lotus ART for the championship’s second campaign.

Hailing from Nastola in Finland, Bottas was crowned Champion in Formula Renault’s 2-litre Eurocup and Northern European Championships in 2008 and has since clinched victories in the prestigious Masters of Formula 3 event at Zandvoort for the past two years, as well as twice finishing third overall in the F3 Euro Series.

In 2010, the 21-year has been the official reserve driver for the Williams Formula 1 team and will retain that post in 2011.

“A season of GP3 with Lotus ART is am ambitious project which is part of a logical progression for two reasons,” he explained. “After having obtained several victories in the F3 Euro Series, in particular the Masters of Zandvoort, I must continue to climb up the ladder which will lead me to the highest level in motorsport.

“GP3 is the next step, as it proved in the first year of the championship, it takes place as the curtain-raiser for Formula 1 and the field is very talented.

“Secondly, because this is my third season with Lotus ART, it gives us the opportunity of giving fresh input into a very profitable partnership on a sportsman and personal level. My first objective is to learn, then be able to race with the best.

“This new step up is, again, possible because of my partners, Wihuri and Kemppi, but also Williams and my management, so thank you to all.”
