Focus definitely the right move, says Bartrum

17 February 2011

Airwaves Racing Team Principal David Bartrum has expressed his confidence following the squad’s first on-track day with its new Ford Focus at Brands Hatch on Tuesday. For 2011, the team switches transmission types as Mat Jackson is this time joined by series newcomer Liam Griffin.

“Apart from the obvious fact we’ve switched from rear-wheel drive to front-wheel drive, this is a completely different concept and way of engineering,” Bartrum explained.

“It’s also a new challenge in terms of driving, for example engine braking has gone, because now we are running turbo engines built to the new Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) regulations. Mountune has developed a Ford engine to those regulations, and it’s performed really well, but the best bit of all is we get flames in the corners!

“Seriously, everyone has ended the day feeling very upbeat and, although it has only been our first day of running, it has proved to me we’ve very definitely made the right move.”
