Hughes escapes roll in Thruxton test
25 February 2011 – Speedworks Motorsport left Thruxton early on Thursday, with driver Tony Hughes having rolled a Renault Clio at the high-speed Goodwood corner. The former Ginetta racer was in the French car as the squad awaits delivery of its fully NGTC-prepared Toyota Avensis which will contest this year’s British Touring Car Championship.
The incident resulted in a trip to the medical centre for 53-year-old Cheshire driver Hughes, who was duly given the all clear by officials.
“He came off at Goodwood and rolled several times,” a Speedworks spokesperson explained to GPUpdate.net. “He’s absolutely fine but the car isn’t looking great!”
