Jackson expecting 2011 title attack
1 April 2011 – Mat Jackson believes that he and Airwaves Racing can challenge for British Touring Car titles this season, with the 2011 campaign beginning at Brands Hatch on Sunday. After running the BMW 320si last year, the Kent-based outfit has now switched to a turbocharged Ford Focus ST.
“Everybody here at Airwaves Racing is behind us to challenge for the championship,” Henley-in-Arden’s Jackson commented. “It’s certainly the right step, going to the Ford Focus, but a championship comes down to more than just being quick – you have to be consistent, too.
“The title is a long way ahead, but that is certainly the goal. It’s going to be interesting at Brands Hatch and it’s about time we got the show on the road. I’ve got to thank everyone at Airwaves Racing for getting this car ready.”
2011 is not the first time Jackson has driven a Focus in the BTCC, as he also did so when driving for GR Motorsport, finishing fourth in the 2001 Production Class.
