Jordan leads opening practice at Brands
2 April 2011 – Andrew Jordan led the way during the first practice session of the 2011 British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch on Friday, as the young Brit set a time of 48.798 around the 1.929-km (1.198-mi) to edge out reigning Champion Jason Plato by a margin of just 0.031 seconds. Gordon Shedden followed in third, but he caused an early end to proceedings after running into the wall at Paddock Hill Bend.
Tom Boardman was next up for Special Tuning Racing, with two-time Champion Matt Neal just behind in fifth. Tom Chilton was the leading Arena Ford driver in sixth, edging out Alex MacDowall’s Chevrolet Cruze. Jeff Smith was 0.317 behind his pace-setting team-mate Jordan, with the Eurotech Vauxhall driver competing in his first full BTCC season in 2011.
Paul O’Neill ended the first session of the day in ninth for Tech-Speed Motorsport, as the 31-year-old prepares to make his 125th official BTCC start this weekend. James Nash was a tenth behind the Widnes-born man, rounding out the top ten runners ahead of further on-track action this afternoon.
