Shedden edges out Neal for pole
4 June 2011 – Gordon Shedden narrowly outpaced Honda Racing team-mate Matt Neal in a hotly-contested battle for pole position at Oulton Park this afternoon, posting a time of 1:27.355 to seal the top spot. The pair pushed each other to the limit at the Chesire venue’s 3.616-km (2.260-mi) Island Circuit, ending the 30-minute qualifying session comfortably ahead of third place man Andy Neate.
A handful of incidents prevented some drivers from completing their final runs, with Liam Griffin ultimately leaving race control with no choice but to issue the red flags. His Airwaves Racing machine left a trail of oil on the circuit after running over an exit kerb, while Silverline Chevrolet driver Alex MacDowall crashed at high-speed moments earlier due to an apparent suspension issue.
Reigning Champion Jason Plato managed to secure a strong fourth on the grid ahead of Eurotech Racing's Andrew Jordan, while Tom Chilton grabbed sixth in the second Team Aon Ford Focus. Alex MacDowall and Paul O’Neill locked out row four, just ahead of James Nash and Mat Jackson who completed the top ten runners.
Sunday’s Race 1 begins at 12.15pm local time (BST)
