Britain’s Alexander Sims led the way as GP3 began a two-day test in Valencia on Thursday. Behind the Status driver, whose best lap time was 1:27.394, compatriot Adrian Quaife-Hobbs was just under three tenths slower, with Michael Christensen completing the top three from Nico Müller and Lewis Williamson.
Valencia marks the final mid-season test of the year, with the circus having visited the Hungaroring at the start of the month. Following the initial installation laps in the morning, Colombia’s Gabby Chaves led the way from Quaife-Hobbs.
Switzerland’s Müller then moved ahead, although Sims already topped the timesheets by the end of the first hour.
Following the lunch break, Lotus ART combination Valtteri Bottas, James Calado and Pedro Nunes led a one-two-three for the team, with Sims retaking the top spot with half an hour to go.
After a brief red flag stoppage, the field headed back out on-track for a final run, with Indonesian Rio Haryanto posting the quickest time of the afternoon session.
GP3 testing continues at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo on Friday
