Alexander Sims stayed atop the timesheets on the second and final day of testing in Valencia. Having established himself as quickest 24 hours previous and with a best Friday lap time of 1:26.842, the British driver led the way from Frenchman Tom Dillmann. What did not remain initially were the bright conditions, as cloud covered the circuit.
Adapting to the cooler track temperatures, Dillmann was first to set the pace for Addax before Sims placed his Status in the position it has become accustomed to this week. Although Scotland’s Lewis Williamson – who finished in the top five yesterday – briefly moving ahead, Sims duly retook the P1 slot.
Baking temperatures returned in the afternoon, with cloud cover being replaced by ambient readings of some 30°C (86°F). Teams worked mostly on setups and race simulations, with the championship resuming on Valencia’s street circuit (as opposed to today’s setting of the permanent Ricardo Tormo track) next weekend.
Following a ten-minute red flag period, RSC Mücke’s Michael Christensen of Denmark registered the best afternoon time, although the higher track temperature ensured that Sims’ morning effort continued to be fastest overall.
GP3 continues next weekend as Rounds 5 and 6 are staged on the street circuit in downtown Valencia
