Sims leads field in first practice
24 June 2011 – Britain’s Alexander Sims led the way in the first GP3 practice session of the Valencia weekend, staged on Friday morning. Behind the Status driver, whose best lap time came in the form of 1:59.708, MW Arden’s Mitch Evans, the Addax pairing and Nigel Melker of RSC Mücke rounded out the top five.
The other RSC Mücke car of Denmark’s Michael Christensen was first to set the pace amid warm conditions, although the Marussia Manor car of Adrian Quaife-Hobbs soon moved ahead before Tom Dillmann and Valtteri Bottas did likewise for Addax and ART, respectively.
MW Arden’s Lewis Williamson of Scotland went fastest in the final ten minutes before Englishman Sims duly set the pace from Evans by just nine hundredths of a second.
The second GP3 practice session begins at 4:50pm local time in Valencia (BST +1)
