Williamson on pole position in Valencia

25 June 2011

Scotland’s Lewis Williamson will start from his first pole position for Saturday afternoon’s first GP3 race of the Valencia weekend. The MW Arden driver will share the front row of the street circuit with British compatriot Dean Smith of Addax.

The battle for pole was one involving all-British honours, with Williamson managing to steal the top spot from Adrian Quaife-Hobbs in the last knockings of the session. With Smith sneaking into second, the Marussia Manor man was pushed down to third.

New Zealand’s Mitch Evans spent much of his session rooted to the garage, but was still able to manage fourth spot in the second MW Arden machine. Aaro Vainio will set off from fifth for Tech 1, with Alexander Sims’ Status sixth despite a minor clash with Gabby Chaves earlier in the session.

The first GP3 race of the weekend begins at 5:20pm local time on Saturday (BST 1)
