Quaife-Hobbs fastest in first GP3 session

GP3: Great Britain 2011: Friday practice 1 results

It was a British one-two in the first GP3 practice session at Silverstone on Friday morning, with Adrian Quaife-Hobbs leading the way from Lewis Williamson. Behind the respective Manor and MW Arden drivers, the second Manor of Indonesia’s Rio Haryanto completed the top three.

With a best effort of 1:52.066 on the newly-reconfigured circuit, Quaife-Hobbs led the way by some four tenths of a second. After dark skies had remained above the venue as the session began, drivers were soon confident enough to run with Slick tyres.

Haryanto enjoyed a short time at the top of the timesheets before Status’ António Félix da Costa and Lotus ART’s James Calado took their turns to move ahead. Calado looked set to go even quicker, only to spin and hit the wall before tumbling down the order to an eventual 28th place.

Haryanto regained the top spot in the last knockings, with Scot Williamson and Englishman Quaife-Hobbs immediately jumping ahead. Colombia’s Gabby Chaves and championship leader Mitch Evans of New Zealand rounded out the top five.

The second GP3 practice session starts at 3:50pm local time (BST)
