GP3: Great Britain 2011: Friday practice 2 results

England’s Alexander Sims moved atop the GP3 timesheets in the second practice session at Silverstone on Friday. With a quickest lap time of 2:11.573 as rain continued to pour, the Status driver was a full second quicker than fellow Briton Lewis Williamson.

After a torrential downpour heavily affected proceedings in the earlier GP2 qualifying period, all GP3 runners exited the new International pit lane on full Wet tyres. After the first ten minutes, Jenzer’s Maxim Zimin set the pace before the Russian lost control and crashed at Abbey.

Sims’ top spot was completely sealed when the rain, which has abated, returned in the closing minutes. Behind the British one-two, Canadian Daniel Morad was third from Finn Valtteri Bottas and Indonesian Rio Haryanto.

Series leader Mitch Evans was unable to master the conditions and could pull out no more than 14th position.

Qualifying at Silverstone begins at 8:45am local time (BST) on Saturday
