Shedden sets early Knockhill pace
3 September 2011 – Gordon Shedden got his home race weekend off to the perfect start by setting the fastest time during this morning’s opening practice session at a wet Knockhill circuit. The Scot posted an effort of 57.120 seconds to lead Team Aon rival Tom Chilton, while Honda Racing team-mate Matt Neal put his injuries to one side en route to third.
Following a break of almost a full month, the BTCC field swung back into action in a completely new country on Saturday. Scotland's Knockhill was quickly mastered by Shedden, the man who is now fully involved in the title battle following victory in the second race at Snetterton last time out. Tom Onslow-Cole was the next driver to feature on the timing screens, joining team-mate Chilton inside the top four.
Daniel Welch delivered a very promising time at the wheel of his NGTC Proton to claim fifth, finishing just ahead Mat Jackson. Alex MacDowall, Frank Wrathall and Tom Boardman were next up, while Reigning Champion Jason Plato had a relatively low-key outing for the Silverline Chevrolet squad, ending the session back in 19th place.
Second practice begins at 12.10pm local time (BST)
