Shedden overcomes rivals in Race 2
18 September 2011 – Honda Racing’s Gordon Shedden moved back atop the BTCC standings by winning the second race of the weekend at Rockingham this afternoon, leading home Frank Wrathall by just under four tenths of a second. Matt Neal completed the podium runners, relinquishing his short lead in the title race just a few hours after seizing it.
After strong getaways, Jason Plato and Paul O’Neill soon fell back as a result of the success ballast added to their cars after the first race, allowing Shedden, Wrathall and Neal to make significant gains as the race went on. Shedden’s move for the lead came on Lap 4 at Deene, with the Scot then fending off Wrathall for the rest of the race.
Plato managed to hold onto fourth as the chequered flag came out, with Nick Foster and James Nash leading the next train of cars behind. O’Neill ultimately slipped back to seventh at the wheel of his Tech-Speed machine before the race concluded, while Jeff Smith, Rob Austin and Rob Collard were the last men inside the top ten.
Race 3 begins at 4.50pm local time (BST)
