ITV reports rise in viewing figures

30 September 2011

ITV Sport, broadcaster for the British Touring Car Championship since 2002, has reported another rise in its viewing figures. All three BTCC races - as well as support events - are televised live on ITV4, with latest statistics showing an increase of 43 percent on 2010 for the first seven meetings of the season.

As well as the live ITV4 coverage, which is presented by Steve Rider and Louise Goodman with commentary from Ben Edwards and 1992 Champion Tim Harvey, the BTCC can also be viewed online and through ITV1 and ITV4 highlights programmes.

“For any programme to attract a continual rise in viewing figures, in an age when TV has become increasingly diversified, is impressive enough,” says Series Director Alan Gow.

“But to attract a rise of these proportions is astonishing and speaks volumes for both the championship’s appeal and ITV Sport’s ability to deliver top-class sporting entertainment directly into people’s living rooms.”

“This is yet more wonderful news for both the BTCC and motorsport enthusiasts watching on mainstream free-to-air television in the UK,” adds Niall Sloane, Controller of Sport for ITV. “The BTCC is an important part of ITV’s sports content and we very much look forward to bringing our viewers coverage of all the action as the 2011 title race reaches its conclusion.”
