Jason Plato will start tomorrow’s opening BTCC race from pole position, having topped the timesheets during the 30 minute qualifying session this afternoon. The Racing Silverline driver will start ahead of Andrew Jordan and James Nash, with key title rivals Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal back in fifth and sixth respectively.

Ever-improving conditions saw Plato set the fastest time of the weekend so far, plus he was the only man to beat the 1:32.000 barrier throughout the session. His team-mate, Alex MacDowall, was able to place himself ahead of both Shedden and Neal, giving Plato even more breathing space as the lights go out for Race 1.

Mat Jackson and Paul O'Neill were next up at the end of the session, while Team Aon drivers Tom Onslow-Cole and Tom Chilton rounded out the top ten runners. Newcomers Ollie Jackson and Chris Swanwick finished 15th and 27th respectively.

Sunday's Race 1 begins at 11.30am local time (BST)
