Plato wins to close in on rivals
2 October 2011 – Jason Plato has closed to within six points of joint championship leader leaders Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden, claiming his seventh victory of the season at Brands Hatch on Sunday. The Chevrolet driver finished two seconds ahead of nearest competitor Mat Jackson, while both Neal and Shedden failed to score a single point.
A technical problem for Andrew Jordan saw Plato’s run into Turn 1 made a little easier, with MacDowall and Neal following in second and third respectively at the end of the first lap. However, a puncture for Neal quickly ruined his efforts, leaving him to fight in the midfield for the rest of the race and see his title lead cut significantly by Plato.
Further problems for Honda Racing arrived with Shedden suffered the same fate as his team-mate, dropping to 19th, one spot behind Neal. Jackson ultimately grabbed third from MacDowall on the final tour, with James Nash, Tom Onslow-Cole, Paul O’Neill and Tom Chilton all part of a large train at the chequered flag.
Rob Collard and Andy Neate were lonely in their battle for eighth and ninth, while Nick Foster rounded out the top ten ahead of series newcomer Ollie Jackson.
Race 2 begins at 2.15pm local time (BST)
