Chilton tops opening Silverstone practice
15 October 2011 – Team Aon driver Tom Chilton led the way in this morning’s first practice session at Silverstone, posting a time of 59.900 seconds to lead Airwaves Racing rival Mat Jackson. Tom Onslow-Cole was the first man outside of the one minute barrier in third place, while championship leader Matt Neal finished as the fourth quickest man.
During a hotly contested battle for supremacy in Northamptonshire, the top ten was covered by less than half a second at the end of the session. The remaining three title rivals were next up behind Neal in fourth, with James Nash, Gordon Shedden and Jason Plato all within thousandths of a second of each other on the timing screens.
Andy Neate posted the eighth fastest time in the final Team Aon Ford Focus, with Andrew Jordan narrowly behind for Pirtek Racing. Dave Newsham rounded out the top ten, while series returnee James Thompson finished back in 18th place.
