Matt Neal moved one step closer to sealing the 2011 British Touring Car Championship crown at Silverstone on Sunday, leading home Honda Racing team-mate Gordon Shedden by 0.206 seconds. Triple 8 driver James Nash completed the top three, while Chevrolet driver Jason Plato failed to score any points.

Neal led away well from pole when the lights went out, but an incident sparked by Liam Griffin led to an early Safety Car, with numerous cars involved and littering debris all over the circuit. When the racing resumed Neal held a comfortable margin back to Jackson, with the latter ultimately losing out in the final stages because of a puncture.

Second place therefore went to Shedden, with Nash and Tom Onslow-Cole running in lonely third and fourth places. Alex MacDowall finished as the leading Silverline Chevrolet driver, fending off Dave Newsham and Andrew Jordan at the finish. Rob Collard and Andy Neate were next up, with Frank Wrathall completing the top ten.

Championship contender Jason Plato was running well inside the points before misfortune struck, with the 44-year-old picking up a left-front puncture.

Race 2 begins at 2.35pm local time (BST)
