Gordon Shedden kept his hopes of claiming a maiden British Touring Car Championship crown alive by sealing victory at Silverstone this afternoon, leading home Honda Racing team-mate Matt Neal during the second race of the weekend. Tom Onslow-Cole completed the podium, with Jason Plato now out of the title race.

A strong start allowed Shedden to jump ahead of Neal into the first corner, a lead he would never lose for the rest of the race. Behind, Tom Onslow-Cole also managed to overhaul Neal, but a costly mistake saw him slip back to third. Neal then began to close back in on Shedden, but the latter held on to take a crucial win.

Behind the top three, Dave Newsham recorded an impressive fourth place finish for Special Tuning Racing, with Andrew Jordan, Tom Boardman and Jason Plato in close company. The latter's result now puts him out of the running in terms of the title, with the Briton now sitting 30 points behind current leader Neal.

The title-deciding Race 3 begins at 5.15pm local time (BST)
