Top 15 finishers to score in 2012

1 November 2011

BTCC governing body ToCA has revealed that the top fifteen race finishers will score points as of the start of the 2012 season. This will bring an end to the top ten system which has been in use since the start of 1996.

Prior to Frank Biela’s title-winning campaign, race winners were awarded 24 points for victory, with the system which awards 15 for a win then being introduced. However, following a record field size at the end of this season, it has now been decided to award points to the top 15 drivers in each race.

The new system will apply to points-scorers in every race result as well as the Teams’ Championship and Independent Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships. The revised system will be revealed at ‘a later date’, according to the official BTCC website.
