Lotus ART tester Daniel Abt topped the timesheets at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo on Wednesday, posting a personal best effort of 1:27.505 to outpace Patric Niederhauser by a massive 0.636 seconds. Having contested the full F3 Euro Series campaign this year, the German was seemingly at one with his car from the offset.
Overnight rain led to cold and damp conditions at the start of the day, with a number of red flags being caused as a result. However, the afternoon session allowed for plenty of dry running and times rapidly began to tumble. With Abt comfortably eclipsing his rivals, Niederhauser and Victor Guerin were left to complete the top three.
Carlin’s Conor Daly and Marussia Manor Racing driver Mattias Laine were next up in fourth and fifth respectively, the pair doing just enough to beat Marlon Stockinger and Tio Ellinas. MW Arden test duo Will Stevens and Maxim Zimin finished eighth and ninth quickest, with Tom Blonqvist rounding out the top ten runners.
