ToCA confirms new 2012 points system

ToCA, governing body of the British Touring Car Championship, has confirmed the full extent of the new top 15 scoring system which will be used in the series from the start of 2012. This signals an end to the top ten system which has been in place since Frank Biela’s title-winning campaign in 1996.

The top 15 BTCC points system is as follows:

Win: 20 pts
2nd: 17 pts
3rd: 15 pts
4th: 13 pts
5th: 11 pts
6th: 10 pts
7th: 9 pts
8th: 8 pts
9th: 7 pts
10th: 6 pts
11th: 5 pts
12th: 4 pts
13th: 3 pts
14th: 2 pts
15th: 1 pt

Bonus points (as per 2011):

- Pole position in Saturday’s qualifying session
- Fastest lap in any of the three races
- Ending a lap of any race in the lead


The 2012 BTCC season begins at Brands Hatch on Sunday 1 April.
