Toby Moody becomes new ITV commentator

17 February 2012

Toby Moody, a familiar voice in the world of MotoGP, will replace Ben Edwards as ITV’s lead commentator for the British Touring Car Championship. The latter has switched to the BBC in order to head up the corporation’s Formula 1 coverage.

As Edwards moves to the BBC, taking the place of Martin Brundle who is now working with Sky, Moody takes up the vacant ITV role alongside 1992 BTCC Champion Tim Harvey. The move marks the first new lead BTCC commentator in a decade.

"I’ve got big boots to fill – Ben was a class act – but when the opportunity came up I had to go for it," says Moody, 39 from Worcester. "The chance to commentate on a major sport with the BTCC’s following and for ITV Sport was too good to miss and I’m over the moon to have been offered the job.

"I’ll still fit in every MotoGP round that doesn’t clash with the BTCC this year. It’s going to be a hectic but very enjoyable schedule."

Prior to Edwards, the BTCC’s lead commentator – then on BBC Grandstand – was now BBC MotoGP man Charlie Cox, who had taken over from Murray Walker in 1998.
