The GP3 drivers were first to kick-off track action in Valencia on Friday morning, with Finland’s Aaro Vainio topping the timesheets and just missing out on a lap time of under two minutes. The championship leader, driving for Lotus, edged out team-mate Conor Daly as Tio Ellinas completed the top three for Manor.
Thanks to the cement factory which is based just off the street circuit, a large amount of dust only added to the challenge in this opening 45-minute period.
New Zealander Evans, who is currently Vainio’s closest opponent for the title, led early doors before the latter put in his leading effort of 2:00.094. He is set to break into the one-minute bracket in qualifying.
With António Félix da Costa completing the first quintet, British representatives Alice Powell, Will Buller and Alex Brundle finished in respective ninth, tenth and 14th places.
