Sims steps in for Lichtenstein at Carlin
22 August 2013 – Alexander Sims has secured a seat with Carlin for this weekend's GP3 round at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The Briton will replace regular driver Eric Lichtenstein.
A former GP3 race winner, Sims returned to the series with Status Grand Prix at the Nürburgring earlier this season, picking up a second place finish in the sprint event. For his latest appearance, he partners Luís Sá Silva and compatriot Nick Yelloly.
"It’s been a bit of a last minute dash but of course I’m delighted to join the team for this weekend," Sims said of the one-round agreement. "I’ve never raced with Carlin before but I have a good relationship with [team boss] Trevor [Carlin] and was delighted when I was offered the opportunity to race this weekend."
The 25-year-old added: "The new GP3 car is fantastic and Spa is a great circuit, so I can’t wait to get on-track and hope I can deliver a strong result."
In addition to his GP3 outings, Sims has been competing as a factory McLaren driver in the Blancpain Endurance Series alongside Álvaro Parente and Stef Dusseldorp.
