Sean Edwards killed in crash in Australia
15 October 2013 – British racing driver Sean Edwards was killed in a crash at Queensland Raceway in Australia on Tuesday.
The Monaco resident was sitting in the passenger seat of a Porsche 996 GT3 and instructing a 20-year-old man from Brisbane, when it left the track, hit a tyre wall and burst into flames.
Edwards, currently heads the Porsche Supercar standings after victories in Spain, Monaco and Hungary. He also won the Dubai 24 Hours this year and the Nurburgring 24 Hours driving a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3. In addition he was involved with the new F1 movie, Rush, helping out during shooting of some of the action scenes, and also portraying his father, Guy Edwards, who raced in F1 in 1976, the year of the titanic F1 fight between Niki Lauda and James Hunt.
Edwards was just 26-years-old.
The driver of the vehicle meanwhile was critically injured. It took emergency services three hours to free him and he was then airlifted to hospital having sustained severe burns.
