Stoneman to make single-seater return
18 October 2013 – Dean Stoneman will make his single-seater comeback at the GP3 season finale in Abu Dhabi next month, having secured an initial one-off deal with Koiranen GP.
The Briton, 23, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2010, but made a full recovery. This year, he returned to action in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, and is contesting the first round of the Middle East Radical Cup at Yas Marina to prepare for his GP3 outing.
"In 2010 I had the world at my feet," said Stoneman, who replaces Aaro Vainio at the outfit. "I was Formula 2 Champion and enjoyed a successful test with Williams and life couldn't be better. I had just signed to be Daniel Ricciardo's team-mate in Renault World Series when I received the hammer blow and my racing and life was put on hold for two tough years. Returning to Abu Dhabi will be very special indeed."
"We are very happy to welcome Dean, and it has even more impact for him to return on the last circuit he’s been racing on," added team boss Afa Heikkinen. "We are not expecting any results, we just want him to get used to single-seaters again."
Stoneman will stay on in Abu Dhabi for the post-season test, directly after the event.
