Kvyat dominates to claim GP3 crown
2 November 2013 – Future Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat responded perfectly to critics of his Formula 1 graduation by claiming the GP3 title in the opening race of the Abu Dhabi weekend.
The MW Arden driver conducted a lights-to-flag victory during the feeder category's first ever night race, comfortably leading home Carlin duo Alexander Sims and Nick Yelloly.
As pre-race title leader Facu Regalia could rise no further than seventh, Kvyat was already in a position to seal the crown, but the honour was secured when his ART rival was dropped down the order for ignoring yellow flags and exceeding track limits.
Conor Daly battled hard en route to fourth, dispatching of Patric Niederhauser with a particularly strong move at Turn 2. The latter was then forced into retirement, after colliding with Carlos Sainz Jr. and sending the Red Bull junior into a 360 degree spin.
Jack Harvey was next across the line, ahead of impressive series debutant Dean Stonemen. Tio Ellinas and Patrick Kujala followed in seventh and eighth, while the aforementioned Sainz Jr. and Dino Zamparelli claimed the final points on offer.
The second GP3 race gets underway at 12pm local time (GMT +4) on Sunday
