Stoneman to the fore in GP3 test
5 November 2013 – Dean Stoneman set the pace on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi on day one of the three-day post-season GP3 test.
Stoneman, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2010 and who only made his single-seater comeback last weekend, storming to a podium in the second GP3 race at the Yas Marina Circuit, led the way in both the morning and afternoon sessions. The Koiranen GP man’s best lap was a 1 minute 55.829 seconds.
ART Grand Prix’s Pierre Gasly meanwhile ended the day second – and as the quickest rookie, 0.111 seconds slower, followed by Oliver Rowland and Sam Bird, the latter running for new team, Russian Time, which will replace Bambo Engineering in 2014.
Kevin Korjus, Alex Fontana, Marvin Kirchhofer and Jan Mardenborough took positions 5 through to 8, with a full line-up of 27 cars on track. The test now continues on Wednesday and Thursday.
