Lynn inks GP3 deal with Carlin
18 December 2013 – Newly announced Red Bull Junior Alex Lynn will join Carlin for an attack on the 2014 GP3 Series.
The British racer steps up after two successful seasons in Formula 3, with race wins in the British F3 Series in 2012 before finishing third in this year’s competitive FIA Formula 3 European Championship.
Lynn claimed 14 podiums in 2013 including three wins, in addition to taking second at the F3 Masters in Zandvoort.
The highlight of the Brit’s season came in November however, when the MSA Team UK driver dominated the Macau Grand Prix, holding of Carlin’s António Félix da Costa to take an impressive victory around the Macau street circuit.
“I am extremely proud to be joining the Red Bull Junior Team and to be also joining Carlin for the GP3 Series, it’s a big opportunity that I’m ready to make the most of,” said the 20-year-old, who follows in the footsteps of da Costa, who raced with Carlin in the GP3 Series and of course 2013 champion and Toro Rosso bound driver Daniil Kvyat.
“I have spent years going wheel to wheel with the Red Bull Carlin cars, so now it will be cool to be racing one myself,” Lynn added.
Team boss, Trevor Carlin noted: “We have come close to working with Alex before and we have always admired the way he handles himself both on and off the track. We are very proud that the Red Bull Junior Team have entrusted us with Alex’s first season in the programme and we are already laying preparations for a very strong push for the season ahead.
“Alex is a very quick driver with exactly the right attitude to be a challenger for the GP3 title from the very start,” Carlin concluded.
