Hilmer replaces Russian Time in GP3
13 March 2014 – Hilmer Motorsport will join the GP3 Series grid from the 2014 campaign, replacing Russian Time.
Russian Time had initially secured Bamboo Engineering's available entry over the winter break, but founder Igor Mazepa passed away suddenly early last month, following which team operator Motopark departed.
Although iSport agreed to take on Russian Time's GP2 arm for the new season, it opted against running the GP3 outfit, with Hilmer Motorsport subsequently seizing the opportunity to expand its motorsport programme.
"The creation of a GP3 team is the logical step in the development of young talents," explained Hilmer Motorsport Team Principal Franz Hilmer, whose GP2 squad took four wins and a further three podium finishes in 2013.
"Our target is to support and teach up-and-coming drivers in GP3 and help them to step up in higher classes. With the partnership of our GP2 team with Force India they come closer to becoming a test driver in Formula 1."
Jimmy Eriksson, Marvin Kirchhofer and Markus Pommer had been set to form Russian Time's line up before the team's programme collapsed. Eriksson has since signed for Koiranen GP, with Kirchhofer joining ART.
