Heidfeld, Sarrazin to race for Venturi
26 June 2014 – Venturi Grand Prix has signed Nick Heidfeld and Stéphane Sarrazin for the inaugural Formula E season.
Heidfeld, who currently represents Rebellion Racing in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), competed in Formula 1 over a 12-season period, collecting 13 podium finishes and classifying a personal best fifth in 2007.
The German, 37, tested for the Venturi team at Donington Park during the shakedown event earlier this month.
"It's new and new means exciting," Heidfeld commented. "It feels really special to be part of a starting project that is going to bring a lot to the future of racing and the automobile.
"When you've been involved in driving and motorsport at a high level for such a long time, you step into a car and automatically start to compare to what you've experienced before.
"I will try to bring some ideas of what I've seen and experienced to help the team perform at the highest level."
Sarrazin, also contesting the WEC for Toyota, made one Formula 1 start with Minardi back in 1999, and had spells in the World Rally Championship and Intercontinental Rally Challenge with Subaru and Peugeot.
"Being a part of this new championship is amazing," said Sarrazin, 38. "I am excited and motivated to sit in a totally new car with pioneering technology and to undertake a new discipline.
"It's a great way to raise awareness of electric vehicles. I have three years of experience in hybrid vehicle competition, which introduces the concept of being efficient in saving energy and the FIA Formula E series takes this to another level. This is something very important and I want to build on my experience.
"I am proud to race for Venturi, a renowned pioneer in electric vehicles. This is the future."
