Eriksson beats Lynn to triumph at Silverstone
5 July 2014 – Koiranen GP driver Jimmy Eriksson held on despite late pressure from Red Bull young driver Alex Lynn to claim his maiden GP3 victory in Saturday's opening race at Silverstone.
Eriksson started from pole position and led every lap, but saw his advantage over Lynn cut from three seconds to just a few tenths as the race reached its closing stages.
But Lynn never had a real opportunity and eventually came home 0.9s behind the controlled Eriksson.
Lynn maintained his title lead with second, although the Briton had to fend off Jann Mardenborough on the first lap after his compatriot got a better start. Lynn edged Mardenborough towards the pit wall to retain the position.
ART driver Marvin Kirchhöfer completed the podium, ahead of Emil Bernstorff and Nick Yelloly.
Riccardo Agostini claimed sixth position, ahead of Richie Stanaway and Dino Zamparelli.
Mardenborough slipped to ninth, while Dean Stoneman claimed the final point after a strong start from 16th.
Sunday's second race at Silverstone gets underway at 8.10am local time (GMT +1)
