Kirchhöfer coasts to maiden GP3 victory
19 July 2014 – Marvin Kirchhöfer claimed his maiden GP3 victory at his home event at Hockenheim after leading from lights to flag in extremely hot conditions.
Kirchhöfer briefly came under pressure from front row starter Alex Lynn as they approached the first corner but Kirchhöfer swept into a lead which he never relinquished.
Lynn maintained second, while Carlin team-mate Emil Bernstorff completed the podium.
Nick Yelloly was fourth, while Dean Stoneman passed Dino Zamparelli on the final lap for fifth position, meaning that five British drivers finished in the top six.
Jimmy Eriksson finished seventh and as a result lost ground to Lynn in the title battle. Jann Mardenborough was eighth and will start Sunday's race from pole position.
Riccardo Agostini and Robert Vișoiu rounded out the top 10 after Richie Stanaway and Matheo Tuscher slipped down the order across the final few laps.
Sunday's second GP3 race at Hockenheim gets underway at 09:25 local time (GMT +2)
