Stanaway secures maiden GP3 pole
26 July 2014 – Richie Stanaway claimed his maiden GP3 pole position during Saturday's qualifying session at the Hungaroring.
The Status driver posted a 1:33.553 with just over three minutes left on the clock, moments before team-mate Alfonso Celis, Jr. crashed and brought out the red flags.
Stanaway's time stood firm after the restart, with Carlin driver and championship leader Alex Lynn ultimately his nearest challenger.
Nick Yelloly was one of few drivers to improve in the late dash, putting two Status cars inside the top three.
Arden's Robert Vișoiu was next up, ahead of ART's Dino Zamparelli and Carlin's Emil Bernstorff.
Patric Niederhauser put his Arden machine seventh, with ART driver Alex Fontana, who was on a rapid lap when the red flags came out, Marussia's Patrick Kujala and Marvin Kirchhöfer (ART) completing the top 10.
Saturday's GP3 race at the Hungaroring gets underway at 17:20 local time (GMT +2)
