Gutiérrez to contest select FE races
9 January 2017 – Ex-Haas Formula 1 driver Esteban Gutiérrez will contest select Formula E races as the 2016/17 season wears on, including the Mexico ePrix, it was announced during a special press conference on Monday.
Gutiérrez, 25, returned to the F1 grid with Haas in 2016, but has been replaced by Kevin Magnussen for 2017, and his chances of securing another seat appear to be over.
Gutiérrez was initially linked with Sauber and Manor, but Sauber is set to take on Pascal Wehrlein, while Manor has gone into administration following failed investment talks.
As he explores his options, Gutiérrez will contest a "select number of races" in Formula E, including his home event on April 1, and the inaugural New York ePrix on July 15-16.
Gutiérrez has not confirmed which team he will be racing for.
Gutiérrez was joined at the press conference by Formula E series boss Alejandro Agag and the mayor of Mexico City, Miguel Ángel Mancera, who both welcomed his arrival.
Following Hong Kong and Morocco, Formula E will visit eight more venues during its third season, including double-headers at the aforementioned New York and Montréal.
Gutiérrez could join the series full-time for 2017/18.
