Formula E drivers raising funds for Monger
19 May 2017 – Formula E drivers have staged a kart race to raise funds for Billy Monger.
Monger suffered a horrific accident while competing in British Formula 4 at Donington Park last month, which led to the amputation of both his lower legs.
A fundraising effort set up by his team, JHR Developments, recently hit the £800,000 mark, flying past an initial target of £260,000.
Ahead of this weekend's Paris ePrix, Formula E drivers organised a kart race, in a bid to raise £20,000 and bring Monger to a future round.
Jean-Éric Vergne's 'RKC Karting Paris' track was the venue on Thursday evening, with FE stars racing alongside fans, who were invited to compete for a fee of £20.
Robin Frijns finished as the lead FE driver in third place, followed by Nelson Piquet Jr. in fifth.
After the race, all the drivers and fans involved in the event gathered in a circle and spoke to Monger over the phone to tell him about the action.
