Alesi takes maiden GP3 win at Silverstone
16 July 2017 – Giuliano Alesi sustained race-long pressure from Jack Aitken to secure his maiden victory in the GP3 Series during the second race at Silverstone.
Alesi started from net pole position after Dorian Boccolacci failed to take up his place at the head of the field, and the Ferrari-backed youngster duly led away into Abbey.
Aitken quickly emerged as Alesi's primary rival through virtue of passing Niko Kari off the line and Arjun Maini into Village.
However, Alesi remained in control up front to keep Aitken at bay, as the pair were joined by Kari and championship leader George Russell during the closing stages.
Russell extended his title lead courtesy of fourth position, having bridged the gap to the lead trio after making an incisive pass on Maini, who led home Jenzer team-mate Alessio Lorandi.
Kevin Jörg was seventh, while Anthoine Hubert trailed Russell early on but was forced wide by Lorandi at The Loop, though stewards opted to take no further action.
1. George Russell - 92 points
2. Anthoine Hubert - 57 points
3. Nirei Fukuzumi - 54 points
The next round of the season will take place at the Hungaroring from July 28-30
