Legge: This will be very different!

25 February 2008

Katherine Legge has admitted that she faces a steep learning curve ahead of her DTM debut, but insists that she will still be looking to score points at any opportunity following her signing by Audi.

Although she will be racing with the customer Futurecom TME team that ran fellow Briton Adam Carroll for a part season in 2007, Legge is hopeful that she can haul her two-year old A4 DTM into the scoring positions from time to time, even though she will be learning not only a tin-top machine after a career spent almost entirely in single-seaters, but also a handful of new venues.

"I believe the DTM series is one of the best championships in the world, and certainly one of the most competitive," she said after her deal - and those of fellow Briton Oliver Jarvis and German Markus Winkelhock - was revealed by Audi.

"The cars are certainly a challenge to drive - and very different to the single-seaters I am used to. The racing is very close, great for spectators and is staged at some fantastic venues. My aim for the season is to learn as much as possible, do the best job that I can, hopefully finish every race and ideally score points."

Legge, who has contested the US-based Champ Car World Series for the past two years, follows other female drivers Michèle Mouton, Tamara Vidali and Vanina Ickx through the doors at Audi, and admits that she was blown away by the company's approach to racing.

"Audi are very well known all over the world nowadays for their success in DTM and sportscar racing," she noted, "The level of support and professionalism is astounding."

Legge joined Jarvis and her other Audi team-mates - from both the DTM and sportscar squads - at the company's annual winter training camp in Germany.
