Fans have something to look forward to: the DTM will be coming back to the Eifel, at least until 2011. In the next three years, the legendary Nürburgring will again be hosting rounds of the most popular international touring car series. This was agreed upon during the seventh season round of the 2007 DTM by DTM rights holder and promoter ITR e.V. and the Nürburgring GmbH.
"The Nürburgring belongs to professional motorsport and to the DTM like hardly any other circuit. Therefore, the extension of the contract is an important step in the planning of the DTM", said ITR chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht. The managing director of the Nürburgring GmbH, Dr. Walter Kafitz, was also very happy: "Every year, the DTM event is an absolute highlight and above all a very important economical factor for the region."
Since the DTM was founded in 1984, the series has had at least one race at the Nürburgring every year. After the Hockenheimring, the Nürburgring is the circuit with the second-highest number of races in the history of the DTM. Up to the race on Sunday, there were already 67 DTM race winners at the Nürburgring. The races in the Eifel were always genuine crowd pullers. Next year, the Nürburgring will be hosting the seventh DTM season round on August 16th. The current DTM race calendar includes eleven races. With events in Italy, The Netherlands, Great Britain, France and Spain next to Germany, the most popular international touring car series is racing in all the other key markets of the automotive industry.
