Senna declines Merc DTM drive

Bruno Senna will not be competing in DTM for Mercedes this season, after the German manufacturer revealed that the Brazilian has elected to focus his concentration on his Formula One aspirations.

Brazilian Senna, nephew of three-time World Champion Ayrton, showed good pace having testing for the Mercedes touring car team following news that he would not be driving for Brawn GP this year. Senna, with his long-term goals very much F1, is currently competing in the Le Mans Series and impressed with second place on his debut in Barcelona just under a fortnight ago.

"Talks with Bruno Senna, after his DTM test in Hockenheim, lasted until last night," a Mercedes statement read. "However, Bruno decided to focus completely on his Formula 1 chances and, of course, Mercedes-Benz Motorsport accepts this."

A former F1 driver will compete for the team in 2009 as Ralf Schumacher is retained to drive alongside 2005 Champion Gary Paffett, Bruno Spengler and Paul di Resta.
