Zanardi rules out future move to DTM

28 December 2012

Alex Zanardi says he will not race for BMW in DTM next year, having held discussions over a potential drive in the series. The Paralympic gold medalist, who lost both legs in a CART accident in 2001, will instead spend more time with his family.

"We did have a conversation about taking it seriously further on but I decided it would be a little bit too much for me to be involved full-time for the whole season next year," Zanardi told The Telegraph of his decision.

"It would mean I wouldn’t have time for things I’d enjoy - like cycling and fishing with my son - so I decided to wait for the next train."

Zanardi has enjoyed numerous outings with BMW since his crash, driving for the German manufacturer in the WTCC and also testing a modified Formula 1 car. Most recently, he tested a DTM BMW M3 for the company's 40th anniversary event.
