Timo Glock has been confirmed as the final member of BMW's DTM line-up for the 2013 season, with the manufacturer deciding to acquire the services the ex-Formula 1 driver after his test performance at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo on Thursday.
Glock was confirmed at the test following his mutual split from the Marussia F1 Team earlier in the week, impressing with his raw pace in the M3 DTM. The 30-year-old, who was a test driver for the BMW Sauber F1 Team back in 2007, says he is looking forward to 'battling for victories again' in Germany's premier touring car category.
"It is very exciting for me to drive for BMW again after all these years - and in such a top-class racing series as the DTM," Glock explained. "I had a fantastic time in Formula 1, but am now looking forward to battling for victories again with my old friends at BMW Motorsport. That is the approach I shall be taking to the challenge of the DTM. Not all former F1 drivers have found their feet immediately in the DTM. But I am using precisely that as my motivation."
Meanwhile, BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt says he is 'delighted' to have secured Glock for the 2013 season and is sure he can adapt quickly to the series.
"We are delighted to have Timo Glock back at BMW Motorsport," said Marquardt. "The fact that he is now returning to the BMW family six years after leaving his role as test driver for the BMW Sauber F1 Team makes this appointment all the more pleasing. I am confident Timo will take no time at all to find his feet in the DTM and will give the fans a lot of pleasure."
Glock leaves F1 after starting 91 races for Jordan, Toyota and Marussia combined. His highlights were podiums in Hungary (2008), Malaysia and Singapore (2009).
